Honeycomb update for Logitech Revue

If you tired of waiting official update for Revue, there are another way. Just flash two leaked updates and enjoy Honeycomb on your device. I just did it and it works great.

What you need to do:

Flash the first beta update (mandatory).
Flash the second user-debug update.

Most apps working just fine, including Plex, Google Music (streaming), IMDb, Palmary Weather (widget), File Expert, Dropbox. Not many apps for Google TV right now on Android Market, but you can easily side-load apk files.

Unfortunately streaming audio not working yet in Digitally Imported Radio and TuneIn Radio.

I was afraid of lack of transcoding in Plex for Google TV, but it plays 99% of files, including 20 GB 1080p video file over WiFi! Very impressive. Also Revue can control via IR-blaster your TV, AV receiver and even Xbox 360 (just setup the video source as as Microsoft MCE-500). And I like full-size keyboard, if you need a small remote, install Logitech Harmony app on your Android phone.

Honeycomb ROM for Notion Ink Adam

Developers from tabletroms.com released an alfa version of Honeycomb ROM for Tegra 2 based devices (NI Adam, Viewsonic GTab and Advent Vega). This ROM is far from complete – no flash, video playback nor sound – but it’s a start.

Notion Ink Adam rooted with Google apps

Roebeet from a Notion Ink Hacks forum has compiled an update.zip file that enables root access for applications and installs Google apps.

This is just an offshoot to Rothnic’s excellent work:

This is essentially the Gapps /root work that Rothnic has already done, with a few extras:

Transparency on the status bar added (taken from here, thanks GTO777!)

Frame buffer bump from 50 to 60. Should improve the screen slightly, and bump up performance slightly.

Titanium Backup friendly Busybox

Removed the Chinese and Froyo keyboards, adds the Gingerbread keyboard

SuperUser, YouTube apps added

A Home Switcher and Live Wallpapers added. That’s in case you prefer a different launcher.

What’s new in CyanogenMod 6 RC1 (Froyo)

A release candidate of CyanogenMod has been released today, and here is a quick overview of all featured tweaks.

Application settings

Check the “Allow application moving” option and you will be able to move any app to your SD card. If you select the “External” as an install location, new apps will be automatically installed on the external storage.

Input settings

Now you can tweak how strong the haptic feedback will be for softkeys. Enable the “feedback up” to get more natural response.

You can tweak a long-press of a home button so it will display up to 15 recent apps or any applications of your choice.

User interface

Using this screen you can show a battery percentage in the status bar, hide a clock and change notifications colors.

Render effect is also pretty cool. Check out how Amber looks like:

There is also a Night Mode (red color) effect, it should save a battery life the most. Could be useful on your nightly ninja missions…

Battery Life with Flash Player on the Nexus One

On full brightness, the Nexus One without Flash Player got 3 hours and 45 minutes. Playing the video through Flash Player gave a battery life of 3 hours and 8 minutes. Not a big dropoff. At half brightness it was even better. The Nexus One without Flash got 3 hours 56 minutes and the Flash version got 3 hours and 31 minutes. Just a 10.5% change, which isn’t bad at all considering everything Flash Player does.

Android Froyo mini review

New things I have noticed in the Android 2.2:

Gmail: select/copy text, colored labels.
Dialer: grouping repeated entries in call log.
Settings: 270 degree rotation, better “Set volume” screen.
Flash works fine, ~~but didn’t find yet option to disable it~~ and you can enable it on demand.
Edge/3G: enable/disable data access over Mobile network.
Contacts: option to sort by last name, display last name first.
Battery: sound when battery is low.
