Zinio provides digital editions of the magazines, delivering the exact same material you get in print – surprisingly big collection and in many languages. PressDisplay is the same, but for newspapers. They are currently available for selected Android devices such as Galaxy Tab. Fortunately you can get a hacked version from this XDA thread or here. It will work on a phone, although it looks much better on a big tablet screen.

Notion Ink demonstrates video playback via HDMI, using Adam as a big digitizer/touchpad and connectors on both sides. As you may have seen in earlier videos, you can also connect flash drives, wireless mouse and keyboards.

One thing I always hear when reading about mobile development is fragmentation. Steve Jobs, who talks about Android so much because he isn’t worried about it, harps on it relentlessly. Just today I read, on an Android blog, the following quote:
“In an iOS world, you only have to write code once and know it is optimized for every phone that’s been sold.”
Bahahahahaha. Yeah right. I do iOS development, and let me tell you, fragmentation there is a huge problem. First off, there are different OSes on different devices. Here’s a chart of that:

Pretty similar. Android in this case has the benefit of having fewer OSes in play.

The app supports all the basics you’d expect like unread counts, friends, sharing, liking, and starring, but it also has a whole lot more, including:
- Multiple accounts
- Synced preferences
- Full subscription features (subscribe and search from your phone)
- Search
The UI is nice and fast, and the usual “Share” integration with compatible (Twitter, Tumblr..) apps is present. You can enable an option to jump to next/previous articles with the phone’s volume keys.
